0 Student Learning. Faculty-student research collaboration: I worked with two students on two projects namely: Parents' emotional reactions to the birth of very preterm babies- Anna Schipper, who is a junior nursing honors student. We had a poster presentation on this project at the 2010 MNRS Annual Research Conference, Kansas City, Missouri, April 8-11, 2010. The second project is a systematic review on "Excess Prepregnancy Weight and its impact on Birth Outcomes among Adolescent Mothers" by Lindsay Clutter, a senior nursing honors student. We are working on manuscripts for publications based on these two projects. Community-based research and learning: Based on the focus group discussions on pregnancy recognition that I did with one of my colleagues, we designed an intervention on knowing your body. This intervention was pilot tested in the neighborhoods that we use for our community-based nursing in spring 2010. The intervention and pilot survey was administered by all the senior nursing students. This provided a great learning opportunities for all the students. Engagement, outside of class, with first-year students:I had one-to-one discussions with all my advisees who were freshmen. FEN-related activities:To promote FEN-related goals, I incorporated discussions of culturally relevant issues and care during pregnancy and childbirth to every class. Students were asked to choose a particular culture and identify main pregnancy-related issues in that culture and present this in every class.
0 Development & Service. Reading groups: I served as one of the experts on a panel to review a book read by Calvin students in spring 2010- "Half the sky."   0 Curriculum. I attended the 47th Society for Photographic Education's National Conference from March 4-7 in Philadelphia. The conference title was, "Facing Diversity: Leveling the Playing Field in the Photographic Arts." My favorite session was a panel titled, "Re-thinking Photographic Education: Expanding the Canon" with Gazelle Samizay, Coriana Close, Catherine Marino and Rae Strozzo. The description for the session was as follows: "This panel, which will consist of current and recently graduated master's students, will provide strategies for expanding photographic history curriculum. A more accurate retelling of the history of photography to include artists of diverse background (including race, culture, ethnicity, religion, class, gender, sexual orientation and age) would expose students to a broad array of creative ideas, thus benefiting students' artistic practices. The goal of this panel is to provide resources and strategies for photography educators to expand the photo historical canon in a way that integrates diverse artists without Othering them." I have already implemented some of the strategies they discussed.

The camp took place from August 2-6 and was for campers 11-13 years old. The theme was described as "Scientists and naturalists use a variety of visual works such as photography and drawing in their field studies to record, preserve, and document species and information. Campers will explore these techniques in combination with learning the fundamentals of digital photography while discovering more about God's amazing creation. Campers will also experience working in groups through a variety of team building exercises and projects. The week will culminate in a collective group art show." It was a lot of fun and a great success.
