Curriculum. I took the format of our cultural topics class and decided to gear it toward an increased knowledge of Hispanic culture. We started out quite traditionally with some 20th century literature. Then I focused on a very contemporary novel from the year 2013. I chose cultural topics from several aspects of Hispanic culture and life style that they were exemplified in the novel. I then asked the students to choose one of the topics and do research on them and then report back to class. In this way they were able to discuss the perspectives of Hispanics and how they were either similar or different from their own perspectives. I also used the research and course development of this class as the basis of a conference presentation at the University of West Georgia in November of 2013.
