The Dynamic Link conference, held on April 30, 2011, brought students and working professionals together in a conference that combined worship and thoughtful discussion about software development and information technology. Students were required to research topics to support three discussion groups. Each group had a student facilitator and a guest facilitator, who acted as a supporting mentor to the student. After the morning keynotes, the students and guests discussed the assigned topics and then reported conclusions back to a general session. The Christian perspective was encouraged in each of the discussions. The three discussion topics were as follows: -Lost Opportunities: Is There a Corporate Responsibility to Attract Women to Computing Professions? -The Call for Responsible Software Developers: Should Society Require Licensing for Software Engineers? -It's Still There: Do Chief Information Officers Have an Inherent Responsibility to Identify and Address the Digital Divide? In addition to the 19 students of the IS371 class, the event was attended by 55 computing students and working professionals. Full information about the conference is at http://cs.calvin.edu/p/DynamicLink The conclusions of the three discussion groups will be published in the next Dynamic Link Journal.

0 Development & Service. I moderated a panel for undergraduate students interested in exploring the possibility of a vocation in higher education.
0 Development & Service. We have done a number of sustainability-related initiatives in the Student Development Office. We have committed ourselves to photocopying two-sided, turning off lights when not in our offices and even turning off heat/AC units from our individual offices. We also invited Matt Heun to meet with our staff in December to talk about various ways to conserve energy in our offices.
0 Development & Service. In terms of sustainability, I have done three things: 1. I have shut off the HVAC unit in my office. I have found that I don't need it, as my office is cared for well enough by air flow from the general office area (unless I keep my door closed for long periods of time, which is very unusual). 2. I have made it a practice to shut off my office lights anytime I am not in my office. 3. I have made it a practice, and encouraged the same of my colleagues, to limit printing jobs - by utilizing more electronic filing and/or by always printing on both sides of page.
0 Public Service. I serve as an elder at my church, as well as the Coordinator of our Children's Worship program. I also serve as a member of our neighborhood association board.

It is an annual event geared at high school juniors.

This course is a central component of the collaboration between the Calvin College Department of Nursing and the Michigan State University College of Nursing. This collaborative agreement specifies that once students have completed this 1 credit seminar they will be eligible for the "Calvin designated slots" in the accelerated (BSN to PhD)PhD program at MSU. This course introduces students to the vocational callings that might be realized upon completion of graduate school, nursing research priorities, the concept of a program of research, translational research, and evidence based practice.
0 Student Learning. Mary Warpinski (senior nursing major) and Joleen DeGroot (junior nursing major) worked as members of our research team exploring "Women's Mental Health in Three Ethnically Diverse, Urban, Under-served, and Impoverished Neighborhoods". They were involved in each step of the research from pilot focus groups, to actual focus groups, transcription, data analysis, presentations, and manuscript production. I believe that they have gained an appreciation for the research process and it is my hope that this experience will encourage them to seriously consider graduate school.

0 Student Learning. Supervised an independent study in photography for a student participating in the semester in Hungary program
0 Development & Service. At a national photography conference I went to in Philadelphia, we visited the photo labs at Temple University. They had a system for disposing their exhausted fixer that seemed significantly better than our system of collecting the used fixer in barrels for a radiology company to dispose of, so I investigated it. We implemented the system this year where we pump our exhausted fixer into a filter (super can) that traps the heavy metal and allows the water to go down the drain. The super can only needs to be replaced annually and disposed by Safety Kleen at a cost of $200, which will save the department approximately $1800 a year. 250 gallons of fixer can go through the can before it needs to be replaced which will work with our volume. A sample of the photoprocessing waste was collected and dropped off at a local lab for silver content analysis this February. The results of the sample indicate the silver content is below the EPA threshold of 0.060 mg/L, so we can proceed with the new super can process at this point without any secondary measures. Jennifer Ambrose and Heather Chapman will take another sample this fall and then again next winter, probably in February to determine how effective the can performs over its life.

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, QuickBase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, QuickBase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. QuickBase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:
